Forum and Volunteer Stuff
Member Discounts – Don’t forget that club members get discounts at 4wd.com and the club earns money back on all purchases when using your special customer code. The discounts were increased this year (20%) so please sign-up if you haven’t already and don’t forget to give them your code when ordering. If you forgot your code, please contact Matt (mpkelley20) through the forum and he can get it for you. Details are here in the member section.
We have other vendors as well that give members discounts. Please remember to visit our vendor section.
Volunteers – We are still in need of several volunteers for club stuff. Anyone who volunteers will receive a free membership after a year of service. It’s not hard work but we do ask that you have the time needed to help out before you take on a position. Please contact John (cookiemanx7) on the forum to inquire about what is currently open.
Thank you to everyone who made 2013 another successful year for SSW. We are looking forward to another great year in 2014!
Welcome to the November 2013 South Shore Wheelers Newsletter! Thanks to the very low turnout of kids last night for Halloween, I will be spending the next few days trying to eat all the candy in my house so I will miss all the fun we have planned this weekend. Hopefully most of you can find your way to the door and join us for some fun. What fun you ask? Well, it is better than candy…that’s for sure…well, maybe not Reese’s peanut butter cups but still better than most candy…especially anything with coconut in it..YUCK!
Ok, so we have a habit of sending out the newsletter right on top of an event. Usually it’s the meet and greet but this month it ends up being on the eve of our weekend wheeling trip. So hopefully most of you have been on our forum and have found the info for the member’s wheeling trip. Any member that is seeing this for the first time, it’s not to late to jump on and sign up.
Wheeling – November 2-3
Our weekend brings us to a new area that we went to for the first time last year. Members had a blast finding a variety of trails from stock to “I think I will ride with Bobby” type trails. This location also brings us right next door to another favorite location that a lot fo us have gone to over the years. For more information please see the link below. This is a GREAT place so hopefully we will have a good turnout.
Meet and Greet – TBD
Since our wheeling trip is happening early this month, we haven’t finalized plans for November yet. Anyone with suggestions are encouraged to post in our forum or find us on Facebook. Hopefully we will have plans available soon.
So that is all for November’s newsletter. I would write more but I am starting to go into a sugar coma right now and I don’t want to pass out mid senten………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Welcome to the South Shore Wheeler’s October Newsletter. Fall is here and a little birdie told me (and lots of Facebook pics) that a certain VP of our club has finally built an unbreakable rig. Well, not really but now he has the right axles in place to handle his oversized tires that take away all of the challenges that most trails provide. I think I’ll stick with my 28” tires just to show how skill overcomes size. What is the saying?? “It’s not the size that matters its….wait……nevermind…
So we have a newsletter going out before our next meet and greet!!! Finally the gods of the forum world listened and pushed the date out a tiny bit so we could get the newsletter out in time! So with no further chatter……oh look…a squirrel!! (that’s for you Roadkill).
Wheeling – October 5-6
Our October wheeling trip will be this coming weekend at a favorite place for most club members. This property has moderate to extreme trails, there are class VI roads in the area for us to run as well. This is a Pay to Play location. Sign-ups and additional information is in our members section at http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3496.new#new
Meet and Greet – October 8
Our next M&G is on the 8th at the Texas Roadhouse in Dartmouth (where is that again?!!) Come join us and make sure you bring your peanut shell mask…..
Don’t forget to join our forum if you haven’t already. You can win a free membership by playing our game. Just go here.
That’s it for October. Hope to see everyone soon!
Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers September Newsletter. School is back in session and the days are getting shorter but that doesn’t mean we no longer wheel! In fact, our next wheeling adventure is happening this coming weekend. See below for more information.
Our events for September are as follows:
Meet and Greet - September 3rd
Come hang out and ride the bull with us at Toby Keith’s. Yes, come and have some food and listen to (bad) music…..editor’s note (not a fan of country music at all!!). Sorry for the late notice but most of our meet and greets are scheduled for early in the month. If this gets rescheduled, we will provide updates. Details are here. And don’t forget to bring your earplugs!!!!
Wheeling – Weekend of September 7th
The NEA Fall Crawl is here!!!!! Tons of trails from stock to extreme. There may be some trails left to sign up for so please check our forum to links where you can look up availability. This event is with all NEA clubs so you get to meet a lot of different people and have a great time.
Our forum moderator is thinking about a new giveaway game. This means you need to log in and play if you want to win. Not sure what the prize will be but seeing we are getting somewhat close to the end of the year….OK, really not but time does fly…..I wouldn’t be surprised if a free membership for 2014 is the prize. That means you get to have a year long adventure with SSW for FREE!!!!. Of course, the moderator has final say on the prize and it could end up being a pencil. Guess we will have to wait and see.
Hope everyone has a great September and we will see you soon!
Welcome to the “UPDATED” August 2013 South Shore Wheeler’s Newsletter! This newsletter contains an update to our M&G scheduled for August since our original plans have been put on hold for the time being. The good news is that this M&G is open to everyone!. And for those that did not get the original August newsletter sent yesterday, we have been experiencing some issues with our email server which has caused us to miss the June and July newsletters in email form. The newsletters were published on both our forum and Facebook page.
Now, onto our August events
Meet and Greet – August 13 at Red Robin in Foxboro
Details and sign-ups for our M&G can be found in our forum at
Wheeling – August 17-18
Our next camping/wheeling trip is scheduled for the middle of the month. This location was brand new to us last year and proved to be a favorite among those that attended. The location offers a ton of different trails from stock to “maybe I’ll just ride with the big boys” trails. As always, the specific trails we run will be determined by who signs up to go. We also have the ability to run another popular trail that is minutes down the road from this location. Overall trail ratings for the weekend (don’t laugh) are in the range of 1 – 8 depending on which ones we run. So something for everyone.
As for camping, this is not an official campground but we have permission to camp at the main trail. This is very primitive camping with no bathrooms or running water. Smaller campers and RV’s should be OK but please check with us before bringing your camper to make sure you can get it to the clearing.
Hope everyone has a great August and enjoy what’s left of the summer.
The South Shore Wheelers Team.
Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers July Newsletter. And Happy 4th of July!!!. July brings some exciting wheeling that tends to be everyone’s favorite so let’s get to it!
Meet and Greet – Ugh!! Again…an early one but we did have people attend. Thanks to everyone who came out the Abington Ale House for our July M&G
August’s Meet and Greet will be a members only (and close friends) Summer barbecue assuming Matt gets everything done around his pool. Information about the potential date and the “rules” for anyone that wants to swim are located here. And again….everyone needs to push Matt into finishing his pool area so we can all have fun.
Wheeling – Weekend of July 20th
Our July Wheeling will be our western MA camping trip. This trip has trails for everyone including stock and well built. Saturday are the easier trails and Sunday is the hard trail. Those that don’t want to do the harder trail can easily jump in and ride with others. Some are heading up Friday night for some possible night wheeling so please post up in the forum if you plan on attending.
As mentioned, the easier trails are stock friendly. Here is the description of the harder trail
6 ~ 31″ aggressive tires plus 1 traction aiding device (Limited Slip or Locking) OR a winch Mildly demanding trail with the possibility of deep mud/water crossings. Rocks will be larger so the use of undercarriage protection is recommended
7 ~ 33″ tires 1 locking device OR a winch. Demanding trail with the likelihood of getting stuck. Moderately large rock/bolder work should be expected.
Hope to see everyone on the trails in July!!
Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers June 2013 Newsletter!
First, I understand this newsletter is late but I have a real good reason for it. Honestly I do. Someone reminded me that I have a day job and that day job decided to send me to the west coast for a few days right at the beginning of the month. It was terrible. 80 degree weather, fresh wild caught salmon, microbrews..you get the point…just terrible. But I’m back and ready to update everyone on our June events.
Meet and greet – scrap that…already happened!! Thank you to those that kept people informed of the date and time of the M&G.
Wheeling – June 22-23
Our June wheeling trip will be another two day camping adventure. Members can attend both days or choose a day. The trails are a good challenge for the lightly to well modified rig. As always, we will get you around with some help if needed. Sign ups are located in the members section here.
Pictures from one of our prior trips to this spot can be found here
Other events – Bass Pro Shop Car Events
Some of us have been attending the Bass Pro Shop Car events that are held every other Thursday night. If you have plans to attend, let us know and maybe you can meet up with some forum members. Here is our forum thread that has the dates that this is being held
That’s all for now.
Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers May 2013 Newsletter. We would like to thank all of you that came out and helped us during our Earth Day Cleanup 2013 event in April.
Before we get into our May events, we would like to extend our deepest prayers and thoughts to the victims and families of the bombings in Boston last month. We haven’t received notification that any of our SSW family was directly impacted by the bombing but we know that all of us were indirectly impacted in some fashion.
While we can never forget what happened, at least we have some great events planned for the rest of the year that will remind us how much fun life should be. Below are the events we have scheduled so far for May.
Go Topless Day – May 18th
All things Jeep is sponsoring Go Topless Day on May 18th. For those of you with Wranglers, hopefully you can join in to celebrate the day. Information on the event can be found on the All Things Jeep website here http://www.allthingsjeep.com/go-topless-day.html
For those of you with other rigs, just let us know if you would like to participate and we will be at your house the morning of the 18th with sawzall in hand!
Meet and Greet – May 8th
Our monthly meet and greet is quickly coming up on May 8th. This month we head to Applebee’s in Raynham, MA at 6:30pm. Sorry, no popcorn throwing or video games but Applebee’s does have decent steak and its cheap!! Hope to see everyone there
Wheeling – May 18 and 19th
Our first camping trip of the year will be at one of our favorite places in NH. Camping is not required as you can join us either day but those staying over can join us for some night wheeling at this spot! The trails at this location are rated from moderate to extreme. There are also some class VI roads nearby that we can run. The difficulty of the trails we run is always dictated by those that attend so people never have to feel like they have to run the extreme stuff. There is something for everyone at this location (well, maybe not stock but we can certainly help you get around!)
Sign-ups are located in the members section of our forum in the wheeling section. http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3505.new#new
As a reminder, a good portion of our forum is open to the public as long as you register. You can find out information about scheduled public runs, certain organized events, information on builds, products, or whatever you want to talk about (as long as it falls within our forum guidelines!!!). We also have a members section of the forum which is only open to SSW club members. This area has access to our full schedule as well as access to special deals from Vendors like 4wd and Offroad Elements. To access these deals, please visit the members section of the forum and check out the Vendor sections.
Welcome to the April 2013 South Shore Wheeler’s newsletter. Spring cleaning is in the air as is celebrating nature with various Earth Day celebrations. SSW will continue our tradition of supporting these celebrations. So sit back, take your top off (Jeep of course) and read through our April events!
Meet and Greet – April 10th at the Charlie Horse in West Bridgewater
Come meet the gang…umm…I mean club at the Charlie Horse in west Bridgewater on April 10th. Our M&G are always open to anyone looking to learn more about our club and meet people that you’ve talked to online. Always a fun time. Details are here
Earth Day Celebrations
1. SSW will be hosting our annual land cleanup to celebrate Earth Day On April 27. We will be heading back to a familiar location to do some very much needed trash removal. Bring your gloves, boots, bug spray, and any truck or trailer that can haul trash and join in the fun. Depending on time, some light wheeling can be done at this location. More details are here
2. The West Greenwich Conservation Commission is sponsoring its annual “Big River Earth Day Cleanup” on Saturday, April 20. If you are able, please check out the details and the forum and consider volunteering to help out.
Wheeling – April 6
We have been invited to run a trail owned by another club on April 6. This is private property and offers all levels of challenges from mildly built to extreme. This is a great time to head out and meet other people from various local clubs. Most of the trails they would recommend 33″ and a locker, as a minimum. Some have run the easiest trail on 245/75R16 and 2″ lift in a ZJ but without skids and rock rails, you will get body damage in the best conditions. A stock TJ Rubicon can make it with a skilled driver and I would guess one tug.
Hope to see some/all of you at some point in April!
The South Shore Wheelers Team.
Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers March 2013 Newsletter! February, as usual, was a slow month that brought lots of snow, power outages, driving bans and lots of tired parents who brought children sledding. March will hopefully bring some warmer weather or at least some time to do some wheeling! Here are the events for March.
Meet and Greet – March 6
Our March meet and greet will be held at Red Robin in Foxboro. Please come out and join us for a fun time. For those of you not familiar with the area, there is a Bass Pro Shop next door too so there is lots to do in the area above and beyond the M&G. Details and sign-ups are here http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3511.new#new
Wheeling – March 23
Our March Wheeling trip will be on Saturday, March 23. The trail is very stock friendly and a good place for “newbies” to try out their skills and learn some new ones. Last year we had a bunch of new members go with stock vehicles as well as a wide array of non-jeeps, including an H3. The trail is one of the closest ones we do all year so this usually does not have to be a full day event for those that only have part of the day.
The trail rating is (1-2) OEM 4WD w/ low range Very mild trail with the possibility of small rocks or mild mud/water crossings. 4wd may not be needed for entire trail. Without snow on the ground, this is a very easy run. Details and sign-up are here
As a reminder to members, we have several vendors that offer special deals to the club. For any new member that has not checked out the vendor section please do. The vendors we work with provide the club with very good support for various charity events we hold each year as well as providing other support that allows us to continue being a part of the NEA and getting access to all the great trails around New England. Our list of member vendors is located here http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?board=81.0
Like last month, we are still looking for volunteers to assist the board of directors with various aspects of managing the day to day activities of the club. Volunteers become officers of the club and will receive a free club membership after one year of service. Anyone interested in learning more about any positions available, please contact John (Cookiemanz) through the forum.
