May 2013 Newsletter

by mpkelley20 on May.01, 2013, under Monthly E-mail

Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers May 2013 Newsletter.  We would like to thank all of you that came out and helped us during our Earth Day Cleanup 2013 event in April.

Before we get into our May events, we would like to extend our deepest prayers and thoughts to the victims and families of the bombings in Boston last month.  We haven’t received notification that any of our SSW family was directly impacted by the bombing but we know that all of us were indirectly impacted in some fashion.

While we can never forget what happened, at least we have some great events planned for the rest of the year that will remind us how much fun life should be.  Below are the events we have scheduled so far for May.

Go Topless Day – May 18th

All things Jeep is sponsoring Go Topless Day on May 18th.  For those of you with Wranglers, hopefully you can join in to celebrate the day.  Information on the event can be found on the All Things Jeep website here http://www.allthingsjeep.com/go-topless-day.html

For those of you with other rigs, just let us know if you would like to participate and we will be at your house the morning of the 18th with sawzall in hand!

Meet and Greet – May 8th

Our monthly meet and greet is quickly coming up on May 8th.  This month we head to Applebee’s in Raynham, MA at 6:30pm.  Sorry, no popcorn throwing or video games but Applebee’s does have decent steak and its cheap!!  Hope to see everyone there

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3506.new#new

Wheeling – May 18 and 19th

Our first camping trip of the year will be at one of our favorite places in NH.  Camping is not required as you can join us either day but those staying over can join us for some night wheeling at this spot!  The trails at this location are rated from moderate to extreme.  There are also some class VI roads nearby that we can run.  The difficulty of the trails we run is always dictated by those that attend so people never have to feel like they have to run the extreme stuff.  There is something for everyone at this location (well, maybe not stock but we can certainly help you get around!)

Sign-ups are located in the members section of our forum in the wheeling section.  http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3505.new#new

As a reminder, a good portion of our forum is open to the public as long as you register.  You can find out information about scheduled public runs, certain organized events, information on builds, products, or whatever you want to talk about (as long as it falls within our forum guidelines!!!).  We also have a members section of the forum which is only open to SSW club members.  This area has access to our full schedule as well as access to special deals from Vendors like 4wd and Offroad Elements.  To access these deals, please visit the members section of the forum and check out the Vendor sections.

Anyone looking for more information about the club, please visit our webpage at http://southshorewheelers.org/ or our forum at http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php.

April 2013 Newsletter

by mpkelley20 on Apr.01, 2013, under Monthly E-mail

Welcome to the April 2013 South Shore Wheeler’s newsletter. Spring cleaning is in the air as is celebrating nature with various Earth Day celebrations. SSW will continue our tradition of supporting these celebrations. So sit back, take your top off (Jeep of course) and read through our April events!

Meet and Greet – April 10th at the Charlie Horse in West Bridgewater

Come meet the gang…umm…I mean club at the Charlie Horse in west Bridgewater on April 10th. Our M&G are always open to anyone looking to learn more about our club and meet people that you’ve talked to online. Always a fun time. Details are here

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3509.new#new

Earth Day Celebrations

1. SSW will be hosting our annual land cleanup to celebrate Earth Day On April 27. We will be heading back to a familiar location to do some very much needed trash removal. Bring your gloves, boots, bug spray, and any truck or trailer that can haul trash and join in the fun. Depending on time, some light wheeling can be done at this location. More details are here

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3508.new#new

2. The West Greenwich Conservation Commission is sponsoring its annual “Big River Earth Day Cleanup” on Saturday, April 20. If you are able, please check out the details and the forum and consider volunteering to help out.

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3571.0

Wheeling – April 6

We have been invited to run a trail owned by another club on April 6. This is private property and offers all levels of challenges from mildly built to extreme. This is a great time to head out and meet other people from various local clubs. Most of the trails they would recommend 33″ and a locker, as a minimum. Some have run the easiest trail on 245/75R16 and 2″ lift in a ZJ but without skids and rock rails, you will get body damage in the best conditions. A stock TJ Rubicon can make it with a skilled driver and I would guess one tug.

Hope to see some/all of you at some point in April!

Regards,
The South Shore Wheelers Team.

March 2013 Newsletter

by mpkelley20 on Mar.01, 2013, under Monthly E-mail

Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers March 2013 Newsletter! February, as usual, was a slow month that brought lots of snow, power outages, driving bans and lots of tired parents who brought children sledding. March will hopefully bring some warmer weather or at least some time to do some wheeling! Here are the events for March.

Meet and Greet – March 6

Our March meet and greet will be held at Red Robin in Foxboro. Please come out and join us for a fun time. For those of you not familiar with the area, there is a Bass Pro Shop next door too so there is lots to do in the area above and beyond the M&G. Details and sign-ups are here http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3511.new#new

Wheeling – March 23

Our March Wheeling trip will be on Saturday, March 23. The trail is very stock friendly and a good place for “newbies” to try out their skills and learn some new ones. Last year we had a bunch of new members go with stock vehicles as well as a wide array of non-jeeps, including an H3. The trail is one of the closest ones we do all year so this usually does not have to be a full day event for those that only have part of the day.

The trail rating is (1-2) OEM 4WD w/ low range Very mild trail with the possibility of small rocks or mild mud/water crossings. 4wd may not be needed for entire trail. Without snow on the ground, this is a very easy run. Details and sign-up are here

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3510.new#new

Vendors

As a reminder to members, we have several vendors that offer special deals to the club. For any new member that has not checked out the vendor section please do. The vendors we work with provide the club with very good support for various charity events we hold each year as well as providing other support that allows us to continue being a part of the NEA and getting access to all the great trails around New England. Our list of member vendors is located here http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?board=81.0

Volunteers

Like last month, we are still looking for volunteers to assist the board of directors with various aspects of managing the day to day activities of the club. Volunteers become officers of the club and will receive a free club membership after one year of service. Anyone interested in learning more about any positions available, please contact John (Cookiemanz) through the forum.

February 2013 Newsletter

by mpkelley20 on Feb.01, 2013, under Monthly E-mail

Welcome to the South Shore Wheelers February 2013 Newsletter.

Thank you to everyone that made it to our annual meeting on Wednesday the 30th.  While we are only scheduled to have the one official club meeting this year, we do have our monthly meet and greets so please feel free to join us for one of those gatherings at any time.  All of the meet and greets are posted in our forum and we try and keep people updated via Facebook and Twitter as well.

 February events

Meet and Greet – February 6

Our February meet and greet will be on February 6 at the Texas Roadhouse in Dartmouth, MA.  Peanut fights will not be tolerated at this event.  OK….maybe that’s not true.  Peanut fights will be tolerated as long as they are not thrown at the wonderful people serving us food.  Unless service is bad then feel free to throw whatever you want at whoever you want.  So come on out and show off your rig and meet some great people and throw some peanuts.  It’s a fun time.

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3513.new#new

 Wheeling – February 16

The annual snow run will be held on February 16.  Unlike last year where the trails were mostly easier trails, this snow run will take place in NH and will offer a wide assortment of trails for stock and mild builds to more extreme trails for those needing to remove parts from their rigs without the use of tools.  This will most likely be a large event as many other NEA clubs will be there.  It is a great time to meet other clubs and help support the organizations that keep trails open to us to wheel.

 http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3512.new#new

 Memberships

For any 2012 club member that has not paid their 2013 dues yet but still wants to be a full member of the club, please send dues as soon as possible.  2012 memberships expired on 1/31 so you will unable to attend any member only functions including trail runs.  For anyone still thinking of joining, the club is still accepting memberships so it is not too late.  If you are unsure about joining or you would like additional information about how you can become a member, please feel free to contact John through PM (Cookiemanx7).  You can also read through our bylaws here http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=226.0.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our February events!

January 2013 Newsletter

by mpkelley20 on Jan.01, 2013, under Monthly E-mail

Happy New Year!!  Welcome to the first South Shore Wheelers Newsletters of 2013.  2012 was a great year and we had a lot of fun at our monthly events.  But now we are focusing on the new year and we already have a lot of great events lined up for the year.

We have a slight change to our forum and how members can access the monthly events.  In order to streamline the information, we have created an entire section dedicated only to 2013.  This way, people won’t accidently post in prior year’s threads.  The section is located here

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?board=106.0

While everyone is winding down from the holidays and enjoying the snow, don’t forget that we still wheel even in the cold and snowy weather.

Wheeling – January 20th

Our January trail run will be held on Sunday January 20th.  The trail is one of the easier trails we do for the year but, as we have seen in the past, things can get quite a bit harder with snow on the ground.  Here is a link to our 2011 trip there where 3 brave souls (would have been 4 but someone misplaced their Jeep on the way out there!) managed to survive the sub zero temps and 3 feet of snow.

More details for our club members can be found here

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3515.new#new

Our monthly meet and greet for January is going to be our club annual meeting held at Lorenzos in Middleboro.  The meeting is open to members and anyone looking for more information about joining.  Details on the m&g and signups are located here

SSW is currently accepting new members.  Please visit our site and read through our by laws and fill out an application if you are interested.  Applications are here.

http://southshorewheelers.org/?page_id=48

Member volunteers

We are looking for some volunteers for various positions within SSW.  If you volunteer for a position, after a year of service, you will receive a free membership.  Any help we get makes our president’s life much easier so he can focus on the main goal of getting us more trails to run.  If you are interested in finding out more about the positions we have, please contact  John (Cookiemanz).

Thanks and we look forward to a great 2013!!

by mpkelley20 on Nov.01, 2012, under Monthly E-mail

Welcome to the November edition of the South Shore Wheelers Newsletter.  I’m sure most of you are sitting back and chomping on Halloween candy so hopefully this e-mail doesn’t interrupt your sugar rush!

Let’s jump right into our November events.

Meet and Greet – November 15

The location of our next M&G has yet to be determined.  Why you ask?  Well, we are looking for ideas of a location that is convenient for everyone that wants to go.  Please visit our forum and add you suggestion.  I was thinking maybe we take in a nice opera or perhaps a poetry reading at a coffee house.  Thoughts?

http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3099.0

Wheeling – November 24

New England Jeepz is hosting another ride at their private property.  This trail offers a good opportunity for stock rigs to hit the trail and a few areas for built up rigs to play.  If you own a buggy or hardcore rig, there is some nice stuff to play on as well.  This is a pay to play event with proceeds going to the landowner and the NEA land fund.

 http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/index.php?topic=3459.0

We may have an additional wheeling opportunity for the month so please stay tuned.

And one final item, just an early reminder that we will be having out annual Toys for Tots run in December.  Please consider joining our forum to learn more about it as the date gets closer.  Our forum is located at http://forums.southshorewheelers.org/

Regards,

The South Shore Wheelers
